CBI’s Operation Chakra-V Dismantles Cybercrime Ring, Seizes Crypto in Nationwide Raids
Indian authorities have cracked down on a sophisticated phishing network operating across Delhi, Noida, and Chandigarh. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seized SIM boxes, servers, and cryptocurrency during coordinated raids under Operation Chakra-V—a targeted effort to dismantle cybercrime infrastructure.
The gang used thousands of illegally procured SIM cards to mass-distribute fraudulent messages, impersonating loan providers and investment platforms. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the scheme, which bypassed telecom regulations using hardware capable of masking international calls.
This operation follows a December 9 disclosure by the CBI regarding its investigation into a firm linked to over 20,000 suspicious SIM card acquisitions. The agency emphasizes its focus on disrupting the financial pipelines of organized cybercrime, including cryptocurrency transactions used to obscure illicit gains.
